Video: The Key to Business Growth and Success – Empower Your Employees
American Express Open Forum recently launched a video series interviewing successful business owners called “Inside Successful Small Business”. As part of this series they talked with Eddie Kreinik, founder of AdSpace Ink. Specifically they talked with Eddie about the problems of micromanaging and instead empowering employees and letting them do their jobs.
Key: You have to empower employees and let them do their jobs. By doing this they will handle more business and more projects and do better work overall.
Adspace Ink is a print & graphic company that offers both video and photography services. Eddie loves owners his own business but also realizes it’s the single hardest thing you can do.
When Eddie started his business he was a micromanager. He would get up in the morning and have a list that he wanted to get done that day. It was going to get done and it was going to get done his way.
Then there was a problem when Eddie was pushing an employee who was actually his first hire. He would push her about what’s meetings she had, who she was calling and what she was doing. This employee eventually just walked out and made Eddie realize what he was doing.
This experience allowed Eddie to learn that he could not micro-manage if he wanted to grow. He found that by letting his employees do their jobs they could handle more clients and bigger projects.
The companies employees now feel like they are shaping the business and this had led to the company moving forward and growing.
